The Dog Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley is a full-service animal hospital. We proudly serve Nutley, Belleville, Clifton, Bloomfield, Lyndhurst and surrounding areas. Our staff of certified veterinarians is dedicated to providing the highest quality medical care to meet your pet's needs. Most importantly, we care for your dogs, cats, pet birds, small exotic mammals, and reptiles as if they were our own. Like those who visit us, we share an abiding love for animals. We provide each of our patients with the same high-quality care we would recommend for our own pets. We have dedicated our professional careers to seeing that life's important animal companions are treated with the care they deserve.

Our History

Dr. Louis J. Crupi founded the Dog, Cat and Bird Clinic of Nutley on February 20, 1988 at our original location on Passaic Avenue in Nutley, NJ. The hospital began as a one-doctor practice with only a few employees, but soon grew to meet the area's demand for a reliable, professional veterinary caretaker for family pets.

Expanding into our current facility, right down the road at 324 Passaic Avenue, the clinic is now a multi-doctor practice with over 15 active support staff of technicians, client care representatives, and kennel attendants.

The caring veterinarians and staff of The Dog, Cat and Bird Clinic have been working hard to better serve the greater North Jersey area for over 30 years, with an established reputation for providing quality care and compassion for our patients, clients, and the surrounding community.

We offer complete pet services including pet wellness, animal diagnostics, and veterinary surgery, our experienced staff work to give every dog, cat, bird, rabbit, reptile and pocket pet in our community the attentive and compassionate care they deserve.  

PLEASE BE ADVISED: We are NOT an emergency hospital. We are by appointment ONLY, once our appointment schedule is full for the day, we will be referring patients to the nearest emergency hospital that can assist your pet. We appreciate your understanding.

​Late/Canceled/Missed Appointment Policy

At the Dog, Cat and Bird Clinic of Nutley, we aim to provide the best possible care to our clients and patients. In order to do so, as of January 1st, 2020 we are changing our scheduling policies. Since our visits are by appointment only, we feel it is important to keep appointments running on schedule to respect everyone’s time and prioritize patient care. New clients to our hospital will be asked to provide a credit card to hold their appointment time.   

Late appointments: If you are late for an appointment, (“late” is arriving 9 minutes or more after your 20 minute appointment slot was scheduled for) you have two options: you can reschedule the appointment or you can wait for the next available appointment that day if there is one available.

Missing an appointment: We will contact you to remind you of your appointment  1-2 days prior to your appointment. However, you are still responsible for keeping your appointment time even if we cannot reach you. If you fail to show up for a scheduled appointment and do not call 24 hours in advance to cancel it, you will be charged a “no show” fee  (office visit/examination fee). 

Cancellations: We do understand that occasionally situations come up that are beyond your control. In those instances, we request that you extend us the courtesy of a 24-hour notice of cancellation. We will charge an office visit/examination fee for a missed appointment and cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to appointment time, except for cases of emergency.

Medication Refills and Food Prescriptions: 
Please allow a minimum of 24 hours for any refill requests for medication and food prescriptions. This includes refills requested for pick up at our clinic as well as through online pharmacies.
